We have covered DirecTV’s lies about it’s “superior HD quality” and customer/competitor’s reactions to those claims. Now it seems that the true story behind DirecTV’s “100 HD Channels” ad campaign is out as well over at Engadget HD.

As anyone that likes HD and is a DirecTV customer knows, DTV has been promising “more” HD channels than you could shake a stick at for no less than 3 years now. Every year the same story “This year have X new satellites, and will roll our X new channels”. It’s always the same press release and promise. Naturally by the end of the year when none of this has happened, they will issue some press release about the next year and how we will be buried in HD content.

I think it’s safe to say that all providers are on par with eachother with real HD content. Defined here as “Actual channels we can watch” not obscure locals or Football packages that are only available for a portion of the year.

To that I’d like to add that from what I’ve seen DTV continues to have some of the lowest quality HD, with Comcast seeming to eek out a decent picture, but with plenty of artifacting at times as well. You still can’t beat a good ol fashion (circa 2006) HD-DVD or BluRay disk.
