I don’t know why I didn’t think this would happen… it is Microsoft and they have proved for the last 8 years that they are absolutely incapable of releasing valuable, stable, robust and well-designed software.
Rumors abound that Windows XP SP3 installs are fucking over computers world-wide, resulting in the inability to boot after the patches are applied.
Also, a sweet-touch to the mix, if you have installed IE Beta 8 to try it out, say bye-bye to SP3, you can’t install it. Oh and if you are a web designer and need IE 6, good luck with that. Apparently you can’t downgrade IE 7 after SP3 installs either.
So high-fives all around for Microsoft insight on all fronts. Brilliant planning, brilliant execution. I’ll just keeping typing this on my super awesome Vista Ultim… *BLUE-SCREEN*

Alas I was one of those fucked over by microsofts service pack 3. Computer crashed on restart. I never even seen XP crash before an I been using it since 2002!!! Thank god I was able to safe boot it to get to system restore or I would have had to reinstall XP from scratch. This took down two of my computers. Is this microsofts way of chivvying us diehard XP users on to their fucked up Vista? 30 files were renamed so I got to deal with that too! Fuck Bill and Melinda!! I think I will migrate to Ubuntu 7.10 and fuck microsofts fucked up software behind.

This makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

And if that wasn’t good enough, it looks like it’s killing AMD-specific machines too: link here
Go Microsoft!

Ah ok after 5 hours of rebooting my shit and uninstalling SP3 and reinstalling video drivers its good to go.
I think it screwed up my NVIDIA driver and my default driver didnt work with SP3 thats why it was 4bit i guess i should have tried to reinstall NVIDIA before i uninstalled SP3 but oh well i will live without that stupid fucking update.

Whew, glad you got that going. I applied SP3 to one machine so far and it went OK, but it had a standard graphics card in it, nothing complex.
I wonder what changed so much in SP3 that it would invalid existing drivers like that? I can’t imagine how many people are going to experience that shit…

Yet another “update” from micro$oft. It damn near fucked up my PC, thank god it wouldnt install for some reason. Microsoft and bill gates, you both can gladly burn in hell. I will buy a mac tomorrow! I am done. First it was windows Me, what a piece of shit that was. Now this. Bye Bye M$$. Thanks for reading!

Well I did finally get SP3 to install. Then I discovered that the microsoft update service got knocked off kilter and now sp3 can’t update, or any other microsoft program that uses this service to update. That is it. I am off to choose a Linux distro and I’ll run a Linux program called WINE to run my microsoft programs. So sya-fuckin-nara to micr$$$$$$oft. If I got to reeinstall or use the restore points it aint fuckin worth the hassle.

I loved SP3 to be honest.. it just wasted my wholle day.
i had to format my drive as my laptop refused to launch XP.
Your days are numbered Microsoft.

I think it is evident to all that Microsoft, in its usual high-handed way is trying to force the move to Vista. In actuallity all it will do is entrench people to use XP sp2 or move to a Linux distro. I have used Ubuntu with great success but then I fell madly in love with Mandriva and PCLinuxOS a Mandriva derivitive. For those with old hardware then Vectorlinux is the standard. Open SuSe 11.0 is wonderful for newer machines. Of course an intermediary step is Knoppix 5. whatever it is up to now. Microsoft and it’s unholy alliance with Intel is out in the open now. I use exclusively AMD cpu’s and Cyrix cpu’s. Fuck Intel and Micro$$oft. As a business owner AND a home user I rest easy in the sure knowledge that my friends and associates will follow in my path away from the monopolists. Think about this. The guy that invented the Internet gave it away for free. He took not one dime in profit. See what a success the internet became? But Bill Gates and that bitch wife of his are just rolling in it. The majority of home computers use Micro$$ofts products. When will Billy and Wendy rake in enough profit? When Linux and the open source community worldwide force them too. Personally I pirate all the micro$$oft programs I can. Similarly I pirate all the entertainment media I can Fuck them All

The SP3 upgrade took out my d-link wireless driver. The upgrade was okay, took forever, but it did it’s thing. Everything seems to work just fine, except I can’t use the wireless home network.
I expect I’ll have to spend at least a half day learning how to fix this (I did locate the SP3 drivers from d-link, and my first try at installing them was not successful — not asking for help here… just venting and glad to learn “It’s not JUST me”).
Apple is looking better each year.

Bill, that conclusion of “Apple is looking better each year” I hear atleast once a month from my Windows friends, half have moved to Mac, and while it’s not without it’s own learning curve, the flawless hardware support and setup has been a big selling point for them.
I’m amazed at Microsoft’s ability to consistently deliver short-sighted, destructive updates all in the name of… well I’m not sure what they think they are improving… security maybe?

Similar thing happened to me. I have been using XP Pro for a while now and my system just crashed. No Operating System Detected. And the boot disk will not even recognize my hard drive now. If this is some way of screwing up XP and making me go to Vista it is really going to make me go to Apple.

Well here is the thing on this, and I have to say it. From my point of view this article seems bias. No harm intended by the way, a lot of people don’t like windows. But, in terms of gaming, Microsoft has everybody by the balls. Albeit as inefficient emulate this already erroneous software. And MAC, by all means is no better. Claiming MAC is better at stuff windows is made to do is like saying my light bulb is better because it doesn’t fit in the socket. But it does have great strides in the art and photography fields. But it is still kinda indie. But yes, Microsoft does do some stupid crap, I just needed to correct some misconceptions that people make. But as a whole, if you want the safest, fastest, most reliable operating system. Use Ubuntu, or some form of Linux. You just won’t be able to find much. It is like the PS3, more potential, yet there is just nothing for it. But also some more points for MAC, as editor put. Each MAC computer comes optimized with it’s pre-existing hardware unlike windows. But I think still, in terms of adaptivity and reliability, Linus Torvald (Also a nobel prize winner) has out smarted Steve jobs and Bill Gates… Actually that is being disingenuous, Linux Torvald has out smarted Steve Jobs, and that only makes sense if you know how windows came to be.

So, here we go, I just downloaded SP3. Just for the sake of this article, as nothing was wrong with my previous version. Now, there is one plus that I have gotten from it. My Mercenaries 2, and SimCity Societies no longer freezes. Or just not as much, they usually do after about 10 minutes. But they haven’t yet today. Other than that, I can’t tell much of a difference. But then again, I am testing it like microsoft does, If it works just fine for a day. Sell it! People will buy it!
September 26th, 2008 at 9:16 am
Mac = no problems ….EVER! Microsoft just keeps you fixing shit!
October 3rd, 2008 at 11:28 pm
FUck off microsoft, I’ve had enough. Just fucking fix it or fuck off.
