Laurence Hartje gives us the heads up on the Windows Vista RC1 public downloads that have been posted, both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. RC1 will expire June 1st 2007, so you can actually run Vista for free for a little shy of a year, that’s pretty cool.

Also, be sure to grab a key if you need one. My personal opinion is that you should grab yourself a copy. I tried the buggy/slow Beta 2 install that got such a bad wrap online, and even liked that quite a bit. From what I’ve read the RC1 version compared to the Beta 2 release is almost a completely different OS with so many performance enhancements and bug fixes.

Update #1: Ok I downloaded and installed it and was unable to get it to stop blue screening all the time. Completely unstable for me. Surprisingly Beta 2 was slow, but stable. RC1 seems completely broken on my machine.

  1. » Microsoft Windows Vista Build 5728 (aka RC1 Update 1) Released Says:

[...] Well when it was first announced it was only available to XXX, but now Build 5728 of Windows Vista has been released to the public, although from the download page it just looks like the 32-bit version. I was happy to see this given all my problems with the RC1 release. While this is available as an upgrade for folks running RC1, I wouldn’t encourage it unless you couldn’t wipe your system. I’m downloading it now and will let you know how it goes. [...]
