I actually liked instant search , bit it is confusing as u told, i was annoyed by the lots of unnecessary security dialog. UI is nice and make PC really slow , since i was a gamer and with vista my pc was getting slow i switched back to XP.

I had windows xp pro spc 2 for 5 years now, never given me headaches and so far the most reliable windows OS, but I bought a laptop with vista home premium a year ago, yeah the new features and security with home networking is neat, but a simple error in the registry after uninstalling a software fucks the OS up, the system tends to hang (freeze, non responsive after trying to run diagnostics) I probably never buy or upgrade to windows 7, windows xp is still reliable.

I just wonder. I think that Bill Gates needs to stop running that System 7 commercial with that little girl, and have a multinational national, (many children many genders, and many backgrounds.) commercial with many children.

What if I was one that didn't like children at all.

or

Now I'm not saying per say that the child has to be white. That I do not care. But there should be many children not just a child who to me any way, (may or may not seem American). I hope I have explained myself in a non discriminatory way.

Not only did Vista out right suck, but the kid for system seven seems to be from some where other then the US. Not that I'm saying that everyone from the US has to be white and male. haha.

To sum, this up at a time when we are Going American Again, the comerical does not capture the pride of America for me. I find it to be very insulting is all.

I hope people understand what I'm trying to get at without sounding like a jerk.

I am very hesitant to buy Windows 7 at such an early release date. Everyone knows the first release is never a good release. I think Microsoft needs to bring back ME, my favorite OS. But just enhance it for future use.

Tom,

FWIW, I noticed Windows 7 is a bit better about this -- I do recall this sucking ass in Vista, but W7 seems smarter/more successful with this.

Um, hello

You guys forgot that xp me and 2000 all found drivers automatically.

Vista never finds the driver you need for your hardware.

Come on why hasn't anyone talked about this.

i bought a new toshiba with vista installed it was extremly annoying i took it back to best buy and asked if i could put xp on it they said no because the devices installed on there wouldnt work so i went back home and while using it the system locked up so i eventually pulled the battery after trying everything to get it to reboot,,,,,,when i got it to come back on it said there was an error and that i would have to restore it to factory settings and all my stuff would be lost ...so i folded the laptop backwards smashed it against the coffee table the stomped on it and collected the tiny little pieces and dumped them off at the best but store sidewalk i had bought it at ....what a piece of crap and shame on all these computer manufacturers that cater to that idiot bill gates

Erick,

Vista absolutely does suck -- but if it's any consolation Windows 7 is much better. It's not perfect, but it's what Vista was *suppose* to be -- if that helps provide any indication.

The thing that really angers me about it, is EVERYTHING is different. The Registry is locked, for no good reason even with Admin access. Security up the wazoo, Yippie![/sarcasm]. I trashed my Registry trying to change a setting because apparently being an admin is not enough.

On top of that, it's IMPOSSIBLE to find anything thus making it harder to get work done.

This was mainly on Windows 7, but I had similar issues on Vista that pissed me off (Like how it corrupted 24 hours after my NEW laptop preinstalled it).

Bill shoul get an enema. But instead of warm water they should give him shatered pieces of every vista dvd disk on the planet. It took me like two freaking hours to install my wacom drivers. F*** It's like he wants us to remember the old days when we couldn't do anything but wait.

I have a dell notebook w. a 2 GHz processor & 2.5GB of RAM, I use xp on it & it runs beautifully, I use ArcGIS, edit alot of camera raw images in Adobe Photoshop and it does this without delay or complaint. With vista it would need 2 gb of RAM just to run properly, and with my machine's specs it would barely be useable let alone up to what i use mine for.

Microsoft's new philosophy of doing less with more as is the case with vista is a great big leap in the wrong direction.

The constant pop ups and the freezing and crashing also costs valuable productive time, and in case those guys at MS forgot; time is money.
My next computer will certainly be a Mac, now if only ESRI would make a version of ArcGIS for Mac so i wouldn't have run windows in bootcamp to use it.

Yes the pop up OK to do anything new in Vista is at worst annoying.
My problem with Vista OS is that from day 1 it never worked as well as XP.

A year, and a half ago I bought a new laptop with Vista installed. As soon as I turned it on I had to update all my secondary software such as Netflix, TiVo to name a few. I should have known than I was in trouble. After these updates everything seemed fine except the monthly lock-ups.
These eventually became weekly, than daily. It got so bad I couldn't watch a complete episode of Jay Leno without Vista having to reboot. Finally the software ate itself, and I installed my old XP. Now everything works perfectly.

Bottom Line
I will never buy a computer with Vista on it.
I was so frustrated that when my daughter needed a computer for college I bought an Apple. Just so I wouldn't have to deal with Vista again.
My advice stick with XP, because Vista is junk.

Take Care

I got so upset with this computer I punched it and had to have it repaired (still under warranty) thats how ripped off I felt with VISTA and GATEWAY BTW GATEWAY computers are now E-machines with a gateway logo.. dont ever buy a gateway and think you are getting quality anymore. Next computer I get will be a MAC . microsoft shot themselves in the foot and blew their credibility with me because of VISTA .. This is what happens when you outsoyrce your programmers to india with people use to living in 3rd world countries with no sense of American quality and very poor imaginations .. Go to a american owned convenience store it is usually clean. Go to a Indian owned store they usually hae the air not running the place stinks and their sign out front is falling apart with outdated food on their shelves .. the same applies with the programmers in INDIA .. NO SENSE OF AMERICAN QUALITY ! NONE 20 cent a hour people Burn in hell MICROSOFT

Tim,

There is no way I believe that... 5 years, you are talking about 1.6ghz AMDs and 1.8Ghz P3/P4 IIRC... not a chance Vista is "running smooth" on that.

Vista sucks so bad, I cant stand it.

I have moved all my useful stuff to my macbook (and vmware for those few things that you absolutely need windows for). And I use my desktop for watching movies and netflix alone. I tried using it for gaming but vista sucks at that as well. So now its just a youtube/torrent/movie box.

Its too bad I cant cause any kind of loss to microsoft, since I already paid my licenses, and by not using the OS, I'm only causing a loss to myslef and a profit for M$, but at least this way I live a stress free life.
