Todd Swarthout just sent in the news that the Wachowski Brothers are doing a live-action Speed Racer movie. It is currently slated for a Summer ‘08 release. Not much news on it right now, but the cast surely looks interesting:
- Christina Ricci (Trixie)
- Emile Hirsch (Speed)
- Susan Sarandon (Mom Racer)
- Matthew Fox (Racer X)
- John Goodman (Pops Racer)
For those not jazzed about Emile Hirsch playing Speed, I have to say that I was really impressed with him in The Girl Next Door.
More information over on Collider. Looks like they are filming with some new HD-Camera technology (complete with a guarded convoy) that allows them to have the foreground and background in focus at the same time while saturating the scene with color:
They’re doing something where they’re layering film so that the front and the back are in focus like a cartoon and they’re also doing two dimensional and three dimensional stuff and mixing and everything is very, very saturated with some new kind of film
