If you are a fan of tennis (either games or the sport), I imagine you were torn last year between getting Virtua Tennis 3 or Top Spin 3 — I was, and I ended up getting both.
Let me sum up the difference for you:
- Virtua Tennis series is more arcade-style tennis — meaning it’s more about the fun of playing tennis while still maintaining a lot of realism and not going the Nintendo/cartoon route.
- Top Spin series is more about tennis-simulation — meaning it’s harder to play and attempts to map all the nuances of tennis to an actual game.
Between the two titles I had more fun with Virtua Tennis. The VT series also had a larger licensed professional lineup than Top Spin did.
Given that, I am thrilled to see Virtual Tennis 2009 getting ready to go gold this summer with new arcade styles of play, features like apparel and equipment purchases and especially the addition of 2 or 4-player co-op online or off (and I believe tournament play).

Some more tips would be great as the game of tennis seems to change each ten years. Plus more tips are appreciated.
