Gizmodo put up a 3G iPhone True Cost comparison that I found interesting, especially given the shenanigans surrounding the 3G iPhone upcoming release (pertaining to AT&T’s lockdown).

It looks like when you consider the SMS fee and 3G fee, the new 3G iPhone will cost you a total of $160 more dollars in a 2 year period than the original did with the trimmed down plan and included SMS.

So for folks where you are always in a WiFi environment and you don’t need integrated GPS, save your money and keep the existing iPhone. For the folks that are dying for integrated GPS and 3G speeds all the time, the price increase only comes out to $6.66/mo (Satan!) extra, which isn’t too bad.

Thanks Giz!
