Well this is a kick to the crotch… turns out the US has one of the largest oil reserves on the planet sitting under portions of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming to the tune of almost 2 trillion barrels (3x that of Saudi Arabia).
Wait… don’t go buy a Hummer H2 just yet…
Aparently this has been known for almost a century, but the problem has always been how to get the oil out of the shale that it’s embedded in (a lot like the sand-oil up in Canada).
The scary part here is that to justify the invesment in mining the oil out, the cost of oil-per-barrel has to be ridiculously high before the oil companies will either invest the R&D in figuring out how to get it, or they already know and need to invest the money in deploying the technology to get it out.
Either way, we aren’t going to be touching that oil until it’s 6$ a gallon.

And thank goodness for that!
Imagine what a mess the world would be in if Americans had a practically limitless supply of cheap oil right there in your own territory.

Haha, we’d have to send an army into Montana to start shooting and arresting American citizens for no reason and there would be no way for Haliburton and Blackwater to make $1 Trillion in contracts from the US govt.
Let’s all take a moment to thank god all the *real* oil was in a country that “needed” democracy… and by “democracy” I mean “have the country torn apart so we could make a butt-ton of money that China cannot now control”

Here’s another suggestion: stop burning so much damn oil! Americans are 4% of the world’s population but account for 25% of the CO2 emissions…

Neil,
That’s just not reasonable… how else am I suppose to drive my 8k lbs, v8 truck that gets 8mpg from here to my job 10mins away?
(that was sarcastic btw)

The last thing we need is more oil to accelerate global warming.
