CNN has the scoop on Tesla Motors, the folks that make the electric sports car that looks like red sex, opening their first dealership in L.A.!
The Tesla Roadster (below) goes 225 on a single charge, accelerates 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and has a 13k RPM redline… all while going for $109-$125k.
For the folks that are going to go pick one up, first off… I hate you, and second off, you can find it 11163 Santa Monica Blvd.
Update #1: Webster sent in a link to Motor Trends review of the Tesla Roadster… thanks!

Riyad – don’t hate them because they’re beautiful…live vicariously through people who were at the LA opening, link follows to a post about the car itself, but there are three other Tesla Roadster posts on the same site about the opening event, the T-Roadster vs dinosaurs, and the car’s flat bottom (yes…) Peace…

Sweet link Webster, thanks for posting that.
As far as hating the folks that get one, I can’t help it… I’m jealous… so very jealous.
In all seriousness though, I love the route Tesla went for alternative-energy cars… instead of starts at the bottom (say some Smart-Car-Looking 2 seater) they went from the top with an ultra-sleek super sports car. Nice choice.

Agreed. I so want one too – something I would not say about the prior SML’ing (”smart car looking”…pronounced “smelling”)options before the Tesla Roadster. Have you seen Kim Reynold’s (tech editor @ Motortrends) 1st test drive video of the T-Roadster? I like the way he describes the ride – you can start to “feel” how this car is different. To watch the video sans commercials go here:

Kim’s full Tesla article and his blog post about the opening are pretty good too:

I am also looking forward to the Chevy Volt: http://www.chevrolet.com/electriccar/
Guess I better start saving coin to buy one of these babies.
Peace.

Webster those links rocked man, thanks for sending them along.
I *really* want to rent one of these things for a week… but I’m afraid I’d kill myself long before the week was out.
A lot of the reviews talk about how the acceleration feels, no shifting just… go-ing. I really want to feel what that’s like in a 0-60/3.9sec car. I imagine it’s whip-lash worthy.
I also noticed when he slammed on the gas the tires didn’t rip free and sit there spinning like if you floored a Porche or Viper, is that intentionally designed to be fully optimized for the expenditure of power or did he did just not accelerate fast enough? I wonder if they almost have reverse-ABS where if the tires start to break loose it backs the power off in order to get the fastest acceleration?
Either way, awesome car.
