As it turns out one of the ways that games get leaked early to the intertron like Gears of War 2, Fable 2 and that cursed early release of Fallout 3 to BitTorrent networks is by having employees on the inside of the disk-pressing process stealing them.

Technicolor recently charged one of their employees, Rodney Gray, with stealing more tha 100 copies of unreleased copies of Gears of War 2 and Fable 2 with the intent to sell them… not sure if eBay would be the right place for something like this, maybe he has in’s with cracking groups or just dudes from forums like NeoGAF or other prominent gaming communities online that are willing to pay in blood to get these titles early.

Thinking that this might just be a first-time-thing for Rodney, I was surprised to see from the report that:

Officers recovered a total of 97 copies of the games, according to the affidavit. Another 807 DVDs were confiscated. All together, the games and DVDs were valued at more than $100,000.

… good god, close to 1,000 copies of pirated games, some pre-release titles and I’m sure the rest Triple-A titles worth $50 to $60 a pop on eBay, Amazon, whereever.

I think this Rodney guy has been getting a little too footloos and fancy-free with his position over at Technicolor.
