Son of a Biscuit, Lamp Burned Out

So I fired up the Mitsubishi WD-65831 to try out the TV Guide after a friend asked me to check it out and blammo… no picture. I thought the TV was taking a long time to warm up, turns out the bulb is dead. (Probably 3 hours of TV on it).

I called the 800 number for in-warrenty replacements and was helped by a really nice woman named Barbara. She took down my information and gave me an Order #. All I have to do is print my receipt from when I purchased the set, write the Order # on it, and fax it in (bit of a pain because I don’t have a fax) and the bulb will ship overnight. If this ends up working like she said it would, I’ll be fairly happy with the quality of response.

Update #1: So far so good. I went to Office Depot and faxed over the receipt with the Order # on it. Then I re-called the service center and asked if they received it, she asked for my Order # and it turns out I accidentally wrote Z’s on the receipt where 2’s should have been. I was really polite and mentioned that I was at Office Depot and didn’t want to have to drive back and asked if there was any way to fix that or if I should re-fax it to her directly, she put me on hold and came back and said it was fine, she had the fax and the Warrenty Department OK’ed it anyway. So it seems they are pretty responsive folks so far. If this thing does ship out with next-day as she said, I’ll be *very* impressed.

Update #2: Well the lamp was overnighted, I got it, installed it and it worked only after I unplugged, then re-plugged the set.

Update #3: Trying to watch TV a few hours later, the TV is now giving the same red “LAMP” error light now again. Fantastic. I’m going to call Costco and return this.

So since you had to replace the set did you have to pay for shipping twice? Once for the first set and once for the second.

Costco does a full refund of the purchase price including shipping, so yea I basically just re-bought the TV all over again. And when they delivered the new one, they picked up the old one, and 5 days later I had a refund on my credit card for the full purchase amount from the returned set.

Bought a Mitsubishi 62″ LCD rear projection WD62526 1 year and 6 months ago and a warning is already showing up on the screen that the lamp needs to be replaced and is about to exceed it’s average life and burn out. We were told when we bought it at costco that average life is about 3-5 years for the lamps and they are 229.00 plus shipping and taxes. Anyone know anything about this? Mitsubishi told me that they are not allowed to say how long the lamps should last but that they are getting calls from people with tv’s 6 months after purchase.

    Cindy,
The lamps have a life span of anywhere between 3-6k hours. Sometimes less sometimes more. So if you watch TV all day long and kids are constantly using it, it’s possible to kill the lamp pretty quickly… just depends on how much it’s used.

That price you quoted is about right, but Mits will usually do 1 free replacement overnighted to you, atleast they did for me. You just have to fax them proof of purchase and you put the dead bulb back in the box and return it to them.

[...] I don’t know how closely you guys have been following my ongoing TV drama but after putting in the replacement bulb and realizing that the set is screwed up, not the bulb, I’m pooped. I can’t trouble shoot this stupid thing anymore. To recap, this is what is happening: [...]
