Brian Fernandes sent along a link to a pretty kick ass project by the TechSmith guys (gurus behind SnagIt and Camtasia). The project is called Jing and is currently free in it’s “test me, I’m a project” stage before it becomes a commercial product from TechSmith.

If you take a look at the software, the way it works is to run in the background, similar to SnagIt, providing a control at the top center of your screen that you can invoke at any time which will focus the current window you have focused at which point you can either Screenshot the window or Screencast the window.

Jing Screencasting Video Capture

What happens in the background is the screenshot or the screencast is uploaded to TechSmith’s sharing service Screencast.com and then it kicks back a URL for you to sent to your friend to see your screenshot or watch your screencast completely transparently.

So all you deal with is clicking buttons, then sending folks URLs that the software gives back to you. It’s a pretty slick idea, especially if you run support for a company and want to share resources with customers quickly and seamlessly.

I’m keeping my eye on this one…
