Bah! So I got the Samsung T509 for my wife because it has Bluetooth support and I recently created a monster contact-list in my PDA that I wanted to transfer portions of over to her phone once she got it so she would be ready to rock and roll. As it turns out, the Bluetooth connection doesn’t allow transferring of contacts of any kind. I tried transferring from:
- Palm TX
- BlackBerry 8100 (Pearl)
- ThinkPad T60
And none would transfer contacts to the phone, even though the Pearl would say “successful” and the T509 would say “Accept message from BlackBerry?” and when I clicked “Accept” nothing would happen.
Then after some more searching, it appears they want you to spend another $30 for the Data & Synchronization kit. Because of the lovely proprietary connection on the T509 they decided to not bundle any software with the phone, oh no, you have to buy it separately for the same price you paid for the phone (with a 2 year contract). No thanks.
Luckily as it turns out, T-Mobile provides a “Download To Phone” feature on their My T-Mobile website that allows you to enter up to 10 or so names and phone numbers and then have them uploaded to your phone automatically. It’s a bit ghetto, but it was faster than typing 30 names by hand on the key pad.
