Saints Row 2 vs Grand Theft Auto 4 Trailer

Damn, I really thought the potential for Saints Row 2 was dead after those “teaser trailers” came out and were boring as sin, then GTA4 dropped… it was an end-game… until we all noticed that GTA4’s multiplayer was sort of lame for co-op junkies and it came out that Saints Row 2 was going to be completely co-op-able from beginning to end.

Today a mocking-trailer came out showing off some more gameplay from Saints Row 2 and the zainy-fun really caught me off guard… it looks pretty fucking sweet. If the game is like what we see in the trailer and offers co-op, I’m sold (I liked Saints Row 1 anyway), check it out:

    WOW………..wow…….
Gaming companies are finally starting to embrace the sandbox aspect of gaming. Interesting to see what’s already in development and coming down the pipeline.

  2. Riyad Kalla Says:

Totally agree… for a while it was like “Sandbox!” was all the rage, but game companies didn’t realize how literal that was… you never just want to play in a sandbox alone for hours on end… maybe for a bit, but at some point you want to build castles and drown/smash them with friends.

Same holds true for these games… so the zaney disaster in Saints is looking pretty awesome.

    looks boring

I think you meant to say “Looks AWESOME”

Lmao, but yeah saints row 2 looks just as good as GTA 4 if not better. I mean GTA is good and all but when it comes to co-op (as previously noted) is terrible.

  6. Editor Says:

Anon, exactly right. Saints Row 2 is shaping up to look like a co-op carnival of fun where as GTA4 was super-serious, movie-esque story/game.

  7. Tyler Says:

GTA IV was fun for the first two weeks i had it then everything got repetetive and the multiplayer sucked. i spent 4 times as much time playing the first saints row than i did on GTA IV. this game is shaping up to be everything GTA IV wasn’t and 10 times more.

  8. Editor Says:

    Tyler,

Agree that I played Saints Row 1 a lot more than GTA IV, I think I’m half way through GTA IV and have been there for months… I just have no desire to keep playing that game, as technically impressive as it is, I don’t know how much *fun* it is.

One thing that gets really annoying is how many cops there are around, you hit 1 ped and BAM, you have a star, now you need to go screaming out of whatever neighborhood you were in to get away and clear your rating.

I’m really hoping that Saints Row 2 is more about ridiculous fun, and combined with the co-op I’m guessing it will be a blast.

gtas latest release in my opinion was a let down from its predecessors. total lack of customisation and the little things that pass the hours when your not doing missions. it had its moments and some missions were good but it isnt going to be as a fun or as enjoyable or simply as cool as saint 2. by gta4 if you own a playstation three and buy saints if you own an xbox 360. enough said.

This game is awesome! cant stop playing it. I think it is one of those games i will be playing for atleast a year unlike GTA IV where i played it solid for 2 weeks then put the controller down and have never got round to playing it since. In my opinion saints row has floored GTA.

  11. Riyad Kalla Says:

    mash,

We’re enjoying Saints Row 2 quite a bit as well. We noticed a fundamental difference between Saints Row 2 and GTA IV that explained why we like SR2 more than GTA4… Saints Row 2 is actually *fun to play*.

We noticed after we got about 50% of the way through GTA IV, it just became normal to replay missions 2-4x times just to pass them… that’s not *fun* that’s *fucking annoying*.

Unfortunately Rockstar is so taken with their own wonderfulness that they forgot how to make a game fun, and instead decided to punish the player and force them to “Earn the right” to experience their game.

    Great. Keep it.

  12. Mash Says:

Ok it was all going really well, however i exerianced the online mode for the first time last night and i have to say i was disapoined with the lack of game modes. Compared to the first saints row it just isnt as much fun. Do you think there will be downloadable upgrades later on?

Also they should have made cloths a bit harder to obtain, the fact that three missions in you have enough money to walk into the shop ad buy a full pimp suit. Anyway everything else is great.

  13. Riyad Kalla Says:

    Mash,

The only multiplayer mode I was pumped about was co-op, and so far it’s been surprisingly well implemented (I have had it lock my Xbox up like 4x though which sucks, but the actual implementation of co-op is quite good… activities require joint-agreement between players, you can’t skip cutscenes without both agreeing, etc.)

I actually haven’t tried out any of the other multiplayer methods and have been *really* enjoying just dicking around in the world driving to the corners of the maps checking out places like the airport, the Greek ruins, museum and the Docks… I really liked the docks and the Greek ruins… both had a very natural feel to them and great ambiance… it’s also hilariously fun to throw people off the green ruins (you get 1-gold star for it because it’s such a far drop).

I’ve also been spending my money around town buying up stores and a few of the nicest cribs and the airport hanger.

I do agree that clothes are *really* easy to get this time around, but there also seems to be a bit less options… like for a business suite, you really only have 2 choices… but on the up side, you can dress ridiculous as well (you can buy a full ancient Greek soldier garb from the store inside the Museum.

I also have to say that the no-load-screen between indoor and outdoor scenery is awesome. I hated that in GTA IV… the game entire can render an entire copy of New York city in real time, but as soon as I walk in a building I get a 10 sec load sequence? That made no sense to me.

  14. Greg Says:

Saints Row 2 is by far the winner. GTA 4 has got nothing on the row.

Rockstar better lift there game cause i think the row is takin over. Hopefully the new GTA will be what number 4 should have been, but im really looking forward to saints row 3.

  15. Riyad Kalla Says:

    Greg,

Having had such a good time with Saints Row 2 and suffered through GTA IV, I have to agree with you there… looking forward to Saints Row 3 quite a bit.

  16. julian gomez Says:

saints row is totally awesome its so much better than GTA i think they should make the missions in GTA more fun because in saints row its better cuz ur not doing random things ur trying to kill rival gangs and stuff while GTA ur just going around doing what people want u 2 do its annoying. Saints row 1 already topped all the GTA’s so i cant imagine how fun saints row 2 is gonna be. GTA sux!!!!!!!!!

  17. Alistor Says:

i wanted to know which game looks better out of the 2

  18. Joe Says:

SR2 Shits all over GTA4, i dont know what the fuck rockstar was thinking but i was bored of GTA4 about 2 hours in and had to force my self to finish it, where as SR2 i bought the day it came out and im still playing it quite frequently, i love just being able to do anything, streaking, flashing, mugging, finding a car and making it look totally awesome I cant wait for part 3!!!!!!!!!!
