Instrument Compatibilty Matrix

With the gift giving season upon us I’ve noticed a lot people with questions about which music game peripherals are compatible with each other.  With three different gaming consoles and two major new music games released recently there are a lot of possible game to instrument combinations available. Fortunatley Joystiq.com jas put together a Compatibility matrix that covers pretty muc every combination.

In regards to the most current releases of Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour it is actually pretty strait forward.  For the Xbox 360 and Playstion 3 the intrument compatibility goes both ways.  Both games intruments are compatible with the other game.  On the Wii it is a little different. The GHWT instruments work with RB2 on the Wii, but the RB2 instruments to not work with GHWT on the Wii.

You can see the full compatibility chart that includes Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, Guitar Hero Aerosmith, Rock Band 2, and Guitar Hero World Tour for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii at here: Instrument Compatibility Matrix

Awesome! This was long overdue. This seems like the number one question being asked on blogs! Good job!

  2. Ben Says:

    so how about for ps2?

  3. Shippo Says:

Yea, any word on the PS2? I really want the drum kit and already have guitars and the games for GH but I would only get RB if I could play on instruments that I already have. Also they are not selling a drum kit solo for the PS2 for GH. And I don’t want to wait.

Wow, 6 misspellings in 3 paragraphs? Ever heard of spell check. When a word is underlined that means it is probably misspelled. Even this internet comment box has spell check. Just check it before you post, that is all I ask.

  5. Adrian Says:

Thatoneguy… Who cares about the spelling, as long as the message comes across. There always has to be one Anal dumb*** that loves to go out of there way to critzise. Did you like that, I spelled the word wrong so that you can point it out!

Thank you for posting this, I was so back and forth about which game bundle to get, and now I can make my decision with confidence!

    Adrian-
I appreciate the critizism of my criticism (Did you like how I did that?). I am not great at spelling, but I recognize that and am aware of it. So if I am going to send out an email or post something online I always use spell check. I agree that if you can understand the message then it really isn’t a big deal. But if I am distracted by the words then there is a problem. Take this sentence from the post:

“Fortunatley Joystiq.com jas put together a Compatibility matrix that covers pretty muc every combination.”

I don’t really care that he misspelled Fortunately, that isn’t really something that I would notice if I was reading through, and I think most of the population reading this wouldn’t either. But what I have a problem with is jas and muc. All I want the author of this story to do is to skim though his post one time before clicking the post button. I think why I spoke up is because anyone can see this post and it just poorly represents gamers and the gaming industry. It makes us look like a bunch of high school drop-outs.

1st off thank you for having a website like this it is absolute B.S. That the makers of these games don’t let the consumer know these things. Was there a response on whether or not the GHWT instruments are combatable with the RB games on the PS2? If not doe anyone know if they are? I’m not wanting to spend an extra $100 and some odd dollars if I don’t have to. Thanks

Well, gladly I found this useful piece of information. A very nice work indeed.

Now the problem is that I still have a problem that it’s not represented in the table.
I own a GH III legends of rock for pc and mac. Sadly my xplorer broken down sometime ago and now I want to get another one. But since GH III is the only one suitable for pc I don’t quite know if the new world tour controllers would work on the pc. So, does anyone know if a, let’s say, PS2 world tour controller would work with my legends of rock pc version?

    Thanks in advance.
