PS3 Speed Downgraded, Again

If you think back to when the PS3 was first announced and it was going to have 8 cell processors or something like that, then that got downgraded to 6, where 1 of them is dormant and will act as a backup incase of a failure (who pre-bundles CPUs incase of failure? What other device even does this? Doesn’t install hope in me). Then the core speeds got downgraded because the yields were to low.

Then the graphics processor was suppose to be insanely fast had reports trickle in that it’s got almost 1/2 the fill rate of the ATI part in the XBox 360. Now with the most recent news, the CPU core and memory speeds are being downgraded from 550/700 to 500/650.

Is anyone else noticing the trend here? Companies that try and roll out too much new tech all at once, end up building crap or delaying it indefinitely.
