Just saw an excellent summary from OUSanbornEE on why the PS3 is going to have problems, let’s have a look:
1) RSX is downgraded by 10% speed
2) Sony president admits that PS3 production hasn’t begun
3) IBM notes that the yields of the CELL are very very low
4) Recent blue laser shortages, even for Sony
5) Crysis developers say PS3 (and 360) are too weak to run Crysis
6) In Ubisoft forums, Splinter Cell Double Agent developer says no PS3 version
7) Assassins Creed, the best game for PS3 at E3 and GC, is now a PC and probably a 360 game
The Darkness developers note the 360 version will have better textures and the PS3 version has better in-game videos (hah!)
9) Continual screenshots of games with incredibly low textures
10) Microsoft hints at 360 DX10 extentions (not full DX10) on their DX9 platform for Fall update because of unified technology.
Don’t forget to take a look at VE3D’s “More crappy PS3 screenshots” for examples of why this console is looking less and less impressive. Here are some examples:
Seriously Sony, this is next gen? Do any of you remember Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty for Playstation 2… yea you know the game from 8 years ago? If the examples above are next gen, I guess MGS 2 was way ahead of it’s time, because it doesn’t look to shabby compared to it:
Just so we are clear and no one goes around thinking these PS3 screenshots are next-gen, this is what folks mean by next-gen gaming systems:

And both of those incredible screenshots are from in-development PS3 games, so who knows, maybe they are renders or were running on non-PS3 hardware since it’s not out yet, we have no idea.
