Holy hell this is cool… Sony has been releasing some kick-ass firmware updates since the PS3 came out, and it turns out that the last two they did for the PS3 (2.10) and PSP (3.80) combined actually allow you to play the downloadable PS1 titles via Remote Play on your PSP from your PS3! (over the internet, not just within wireless distance of the PS3).
You can check out the Unofficial Remote Play thread over on the Sony forums that outlines all known remote-playable resources (Games, Movies, etc.) between the PS3 and PSP.

oh wow thats cool, time to update my psp.
i also heard some ps3’s wont play ps2 games, i hope they fix that too.
