Loading ...Hot damn the PS3 is a nice piece of hardware.
Sony has announced that they are adding HD (1080p) DVR capabilities to the PS3 in Q1/08 in the form of “Play TV“. What? That’s not cool enough for you? Then how about streaming the TV you record to your PSP remotely and watching it? What that wasn’t cool enough? Then how about transcoding the video on-the-fly to the PSP from the PS3.
Unfortunately it looks like the addition (right now) is for Europe. Maybe a market test? We’ll hopefully see it come to the US next year as well.
In my opinion, the “computer-i-ness” of the PS3 has made it a far cooler device than the 360. As far as being a game-console goes, both are great (360 and PS3), but the comparison stops there. If you keep comparing, the PS3 adds Blu-ray capabilities, UPnP A/V client streaming abilities, computer/custom-OS abilities, DVR, etc. etc. and to top it all off, a < 1% failure rate with the hardware.
That was definately worth the $600 (hell I paid $600 anyway for my 360 + HD-DVD drive that I’ve already replaced once).
