Three Speech has the goods on the upcoming Playstation 3 2.5 Firmware update along with the PSP 5.0 Firmware update, both releasing on October 15th.
While nothing too epic, like Home finally launching, the PS3 2.5 Firmware update will include Flash 9.0 support, allowing you to hit up all those sites that almost/sorta/kinda worked before… they will really work now.
In addition to Flash 9.0 support, the 2.5 Firmware will also add advanced “voice chat features” for the wireless headset… not sure what that means specifically, maybe chatting outside of a game at the XMB instead of needing to be sitting in the chat application? In addition to that, screenshot support will be added so games that want to make use of it (like Little Big Planet) can allow you to screen-cap a scene and share it with friends.
I believe there was already a hook added for movie-capture or it is coming as well, but the idea being that you can create YouTube videos of you playing something on the PS3 in about 5 secs eventually.
PS3 2.5 Firmware Update List:
- Advanced voice chat features for the PS3 official wireless headset
- On-Screen control for Volume, Charge, Mute and High-Quality Mode
- High-Quality Mode utilizes the official headset’s dual-mic, wide-band wireless comm abilities
- Ability to capture in-game screenshots with supported titles
- Trophy enhancements
- In-game notifications will use the specific trophy icon
- More advanced ways to compare and show off trophies with friends
- Video scene search – generated thumbnails of video making it easier to skip/find the part you want.
- Information Board – Sort of a PS3 information summary page linked into the PS store for easier downloading of content you read about.
- Power saving features (auto shut off)
- Flash 9.0 support in the internet browser
PSP 5.0 Firmware Update List:
- Direct Playstation Store Access from the PSP over Wi-Fi (Purchase and Download)
- On-screen full-sized keyboard
- Power saving features (sleep timer)
- PSP-2000 video-out can output PlayStation format software at full TV screen resolution. Will also add interlaced display support.

Does 5.0 have flash 9. I hate the internet on PSP without a capable flash viewer.

ldsconvert,
At this point in time it doesn’t look like the PSP’s new firmware will include Flash 9 support unfortunately.

leo,
Is it a hacked PSP? You might not want to flash it then. I’m not exactly familiar with how the firmware-updating process goes on PSPs or if it relocks them, but you might want to check first before doing it.
