Gaming, Technology

At PAX this year the PA guys gave a pretty long demo (18mins) of their upcoming game: Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness

A summary of the game play, if you don’t want to watch is:

  • Hilarious dialog between characters
  • The character you create fights along-side Gabe/Tyco to stop fruit-fucker
  • Gorey deaths for huge attacks (awesome!)
  • Cell shaded glory
  • Tight interface… really polished. It looked to me like they got really anal about the flow/control/feel of the game and it shows. Just from the demo it seemed really polished.
  • Very cinematic/comic book presentation. With cut scenes and so on, looks nice.
  • No voice acting (all written)
  • Basically a funny/light version of Final Fantasy type of turn-based fighting. (It’s not entirely turn-based, but your attacks have recharge timers on them, so it ends up more or less being turn-based).
  • Very easy to get into it looks like, no crazy learning curves.
