Todd Swarthout just kicked this link my way. Looks like a cat that was adopted by a terminal patient care facility accurately predicts patient’s deaths about 2-4hrs out by simply walking into their room and lying next to them until they die. His accuracy, from reading the article, seems to be in the high 90-percentile range.
Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours. His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live.
Another interesting trait of Oscar is that according to the people he works with he’s not an affectionate cat and walks around the facility with a purpose. He also doesn’t like being interrupted while he’s work as he will pace back and forth outside the rooms of the people dying (if he’s put out by the family) and meow loudly.
I’ve seen enough movies and “Dead Like Me” episodes to guess that this cat is a guide of some kind… makes you wonder if the Egyptians revered cats for more than just their good looks…
NOTE: This is one of my cats, not Oscar… as intimidating as my cat looks he’s not the Grim Reaper.

I loved this story.
This is one among others I´ve heard about cats and their accurate senses.

That damn cat had better stay away from me, or I predict his imminent demise.
God I hate cats… especially creepy ones.

Cybele,
If you had links to those others stories I’d love to read them.
Neil,
I used to feel that way too… but you can only stay so mad, so long when you get a cat that is like a sack of potatoes (See picture above) and just likes to sit on your lap and cuddle.
Same thing with any animal though… you have one with a complimentary personality long enough and you just fall in love with them (Rabbit, Cat, Dog, Bird… maybe not fish though
)

Riyad, I´ll see if I have links for you.
The stories were in portuguese, but I will see if I can find them in English.
