For anyone that sits and types all day long at their keyboard, you know how important a keyboard can be.
For a while I’ve been typing on the Microsoft B2M Black “Ergonomic” 4000 keyboard… notice how I put ergonomic in quotes? Yea that’s because that keyboard is a pile of shit and should be renamed the “Microsoft Wrist-Raper”. There is absolutely nothing ergonomic about a f-ing keyboard, when it’s split in half in the MS Natural layout BUT the keys have industrial springs underneath them so it takes 3x more finger pressure to push the god forsaken things.
Type on that keyboard for 30-45 mins and see what I mean… then cry because your wrists hurt so bad.
So to remedy my situation, I bought one of the highest rated keyboards out there, the Logitech G15 (which Logitech calls the G11 now for some stupid reason, re-releasing the G15 as a new/revised model). I will do a review of this keyboard soon, but to make a long story short, this keyboard is the freaking back-lit Saitek keyboard with 18 extra “programmable” keys on the left… no joke, it feels/looks/types exactly like the Saitek. Also the keys are “soft” in a shitty way, not in an awesome way and the Macro-able keys are a great idea… if they worked. I have recorded and re-recorded 4 macros, and each work fine right after I record them… if I try them an hour later, they no longer play back correctly… opening the wrong program, or generally doing nothing.
Awesome! Random behavior in a utility… just what I wanted!
Anyway, I returned that POS and now I’m working on an old school MS Natural Pro… you remember those? I think they are even stiffer than the MS Black Wrist-Raper I mentioned above… typing this post is fucking painful, I’m not kidding.
Anyway the purpose of this post was to point out that I ran across a site that specializes in the old-school “clicky” keyboards Patrick is holding above… officially the IBM Model M keyboard, and they run from $50 to $99 new, which is pretty reasonable considering it’s the last keyboard you will likely ever buy.
You can learn more about the keyboards from the link above, or from the sister site that has more info about the history of this infamously popular keyboard invented in the 70s at ClickyKeyboards.com
… I’m seriously going to go outside and smash my wrists with a hammer… it will feel better than this.

Heh, “ergonomic” is like the computer “premium”, anything to lower the base value. I do enjoy the Microsoft mouse I have (Comfort Optical 3000) because of its formfitting design, but I’ve got my eyes on the Logitech MX400 to replace it. As far as keyboards go, you cannot go wrong with the generic standard board, I’ve been using a ?Mitsuko? cheapo for years now and can’t stand the few Logitech $$$ boards I’ve had in the past.
