Robert Heron sends in some sweet news. It looks like Nissan will be introducing cars with their new “Around View” system to Elgrand at the end of this month.
The system works (as you can see above) by integrating the footage of 4 cameras and creating a full surround view of the vehicle to you inside on the camera’s display, looks something like this:
It’s easiest to see in the far-left image in the series of images above.
In addition to the 360 view of your surroundings, the car is also packed with sensors along each edge of the car to let you know how far you are from other objects.
This is something Toyota did in the Lexus series a few years ago and recently used to rolled out their self-parking system in the higher end Lexus sedans (they will parallel-park themselves).
I actually love seeing the advancements in vehicles to make them safer and more informative. If you continue out this trend at some point you end up with self driving cars, and that convenience alone with make it worth going the speed limit (if I can sit back and read something or watch a movie while the car drives me somewhere).
