Ars has a good piece discussing the hard work that Mozilla is putting together to visually refresh Firefox on all the major platforms (Windows XP/Vista, Linux, Mac).
In the original post only Windows and Mac were mentioned specifically as the main targets for the visual-fidelity refresh, but after a lot of user outcry two (1, 2) of the Mozilla developers blogged to say that work on Linux was indeed improving, but it’s not getting the pin-point attention that Windows and Mac are (which is understandable given all the different themes and engines that can be used… which is just stupid BTW and stymies anyone normalizing on a platform, which is why Ubuntu has become the favorite among many, it finally brings unification to the platform… but I digress).
One of the big additions for Linux is the addition of native-widget rendering, similar to what Java did in the 6.0 release, actually calling out to the native widgets to render themselves.
