Ok so I just re-placed another order for a replacement Mits. After talking to 3 different Costco customer service reps (trying to get a different story) I finally accepted their story: Replacements are not treated specially they basically consists of you returning the item then returning it online. You can return it to any warehouse or schedule a pickup (which can take up to 3 weeks to schedule).

I went ahead and put in an order for another set as I don’t know when the old one is finally going to get returned. The horrible part of this story is that when I originally ordered the set, it was on October 16th. My friend put his order in on October 17th. He STILL has not gotten his TV. He’s called the shipping company (Bekin) a handful of times and what it boils down to is that the TV is going from East coast to West coast and if they don’t have enough merchandise in a truck to send it, it just sits there. His TV has been sitting for 2 weeks inside of a truck on the dock.

I just got a shipment notification for the *new* set this morning… god I hope it makes it onto the next truck to come out here, or else I’m going pull all my leg hair out with duct tape.

I’ve gone back and forth over getting the WD-65831 set or a different brand. The more I read on the net the more convinved Mits is having to many problems. I was in a local store last week. This model was on the floor, but it was only 3 days before it failed. They blamed it on power hits over the weekend, But out of 20 projection sets, it was the only one out. I went back 2 days later and they had removed it off the floor saying they werer waiting for a bulb. Without a picture picture quality ends up being zero. Consumers indicates a 15% failure rate on NON-CRT projectors so I’m looking for dependability as much as anything else.

    MikeJ,
I don’t know what your price range is, but if you would consider a Plasma, either the Elite series from Pioneer or the new 1080p Panasonic sets are going to be fantastic, long-lived solutions for you. Although the price is anywhere from $5k to $9k for them.

For me, the size of the mits, plus quality picture was why I got it and the quality issues were solved by getting it from Costco (for me) so I feel safe. If I had to purchase form another B&M, like Best Buy or Circuit City, I may have opted for a different TV.
