If you haven’t been keeping an eye on the gaming scene for a while, there is a game titled “Mirror’s Edge” with a eye-catching art design, tight first-person perspective, and so far a completely unknown story premise.
A new animated trailer has dropped that explains the premise of the story now; essentially in some obscure dyosotopic future the trading and exchange of information can only be done in an unmonitored fashion if a “runner” is hired to physically run the information across the city to the person you want it delivered to:
Interesting… we’ll see what they do with it. I was intrigued when the “runner” thing came up, then immediately got disinterested when the voice-over said:
… but now something has changed (Sweet!), they have my sister (Dumb), and I’m going to get her back (Oh jesus)
They took a cool neo-techno-big-government vibe and turned it into every single 80s and 90s action movie ever. Who knows, the game could still rock socks… I just know my interest levels are mild now.
You can check out some gameplay video footage to get an idea of just how different the city looks. It doesn’t have the anime-style looking to it in the video above, but instead an ultra-realistic blue/color-popping look to it… it’s really pretty actually. Sort of quieting.
