Engadget HD has the scoop on Bay’s response to an angry user that Transformers was going to be a HD-DVD only release by admitting he had the inside track to the high level politics going on with the studios. Bay claims that Microsoft is sitting in the background pulling the strings and purposefully backing HD-DVD, even though it knows it’s a looser, just to confuse consumers and muddy the water. Ultimately Microsoft’s move is to get customers to jump onto digital HD content (primarily via their Microsoft device) which is then tied to the device like the 360 and Microsoft can control completely.
With the surprising lack of surplus of dual-format players, yet sufficiently cheap HD-DVD and somewhat Blu-ray devices spinning around the market… it’s not that far fetched of a comment.
After all, how much would Microsoft spend to control a market that is the future of digital movie viewing? The answer is probably “a lot”.

really low…
i still can’t believe how they manage day after day to sink themselves even lower.
with the drop in price and rise in sales of ps3, hd-dvd is bound to lose.
