It’s official, Lucas Arts has partnered with BioWare to create their first MMO and it is Star Wars: The Old Republic.

BioWare has stated that Star Wars: The Old Republic is actually in leui of Knights of the Old Republic 3 (and 4, 5, 6, etc…). They claim the story lines are so extensive set forth in The Old Republic universe that it will encompass size like multiple KOTOR titles. The game size is stated at having more story content than every single BioWare game combined.

The story line picks up 300 years after the end of KOTOR 1. The premise is that the (ancient) original Sith empire has been rediscovered and brought to life again, where as what was in KOTOR was a reemergence of the old Sith ways, but not necessarily the original Sith world.

As a player you will have the role of a hero in the role waging the war between the Sith and Republic. You can play as a Republic hero or Sith hero and you can even play Good or Evil regardless of the side you chose which is very interesting (e.g. an Evil Jedi).

They claim that you will get a big story element surrounding your individual character, building relationships as you go and exist through the world with a very deep narrative existing even inside the MMO, which hasn’t really been done up until now; you usually just get your task (kill 10 pigs) and off you go, BioWare is claiming that the story is going to be a first-tier element tying you to the MMO and not just assigning you grind-task after grind-task like WoW.

Check out the GameSpot intro movie for more info about the title:

If this is all alien to you and you’ve never played Knights of the Old Republic, it’s probably one of the best games in history with one of the strongest stories out there, certain up there with classics like Deus Ex, if not surpassing it. The idea that that team is the ones putting this together gets me excited… really goddamn excited.

Ya but will it come to the 360?

Highly unlikely — right now I think it’s been confirmed for PC only with no plans for consoles. As long as WoW has 12 million players (x $15/month) the PC market will be the MMO hotspot.
