I thought it was odd as well until I read a bit more about the co-op experience and as it turns out it&#039;s this super-tight-nit design, where you almost need to learn how each other play for a bit before the team of 4 is really melding. To simply drop players out and drop new folks back in and drastically change the dynamic of the team and how successful they are.

Given that, it makes a bit more sense that Valve took the time to put in a place-holder AI for you so you didn&#039;t have to necessarily leave if you had quick tasks to take care of (answer door, each lunch, talk on phone) before jumping back into the game.

Pretty cool application of AI in a way.</description>
