Konqueror Ad Block Filter Support

If you are a KDE desktop user on Linux (Kubuntu for example) chances are that you use Konqueror for your browser then (the default KDE browser).

For most Firefox users out there, ad-blocking support is something we have gotten used to having, but for folks using other browsers all we can think about is how to turn it on.

As it happens, Konqueror actually supports importing Ad BlockFilterset.G rules (see screenshot above). Karol Krizka outlines the steps for us:

  1. Download the latest set from the official repository. (Direct Link: 2007-02-02a Filter Set)
  2. Start Konqueror and open the configurations dialog via Settings->Configure Konqueror
  3. Select the AdBlock Filters tab
  4. Make sure Enable filters and Hide filtered images is checked
  5. Click the Import button located in the lower right of the window
  6. Enter the location of the downloaded filter set
  7. Visit a webpage with a lot of ads!
