Ok, they are leaking in, looks like most deliveries will be done first and second week of October (next week). Here is a user that provides his first impressions of his 70″.

Also some more in-store first impressions of the set side-by-side with an XBR1. The verdict so far? It looks like the XBR1.

If you were hoping for some real razzle-dazzle like I was, it’s starting to look like the XBR2 is going to be carrying the exact same optic block, 180watt bulb and slightly different DRC chip that offers better SD processing which in the end translates to “unless you have side-by-side, screen-for-screen comparisons… have fun figuring out what is different”. I have a tendency to believe this considering what the A2000 was, a repacked XBR1 with two professional reviewers making the observation that “If they had to choose, they might even say the XBR1 had a slightly better picture, but it was hard to tell”, I have a feeling that is because of the DRC revision that went into the A2000 then was backed out for the XBR2 sets.

Another point I would bring up is that component input on the XBR2 sets and A2000 sets only take up to 1080i, and the PC input instead of being DVI to give you a clean digital-to-digital signal, is VGA, so most folks will get a DVI-HDMI cable and run PC input through one of the HDMI connections, the only down side is that you loose all the timing signal information from the PC and it doesn’t think it’s hooked up to a monitor. So if connectivity is your thing, the Mits is looking awefully pretty… especially with that BDI stand, yummy.

I will keep on the information leaking into AVS, it looks like the vast majority of sets are getting delivered soon so I wouldn’t make any final decisions yet, I’m just saying that a mind-blowing improvement is most likely not going to happen.

Would you say that there isn’t that much of a difference between the 60a2000 and 70xbr2 in terms of PQ ? Thanks. Matt

    Matt,
That’s a good question, while I haven’t seen the set yet myself, this is what I know:

    1) When comparing the XBR1 and A2000 side by side, 2 professional reviewers I know said that they could barely tell, but if they *had* to choose, they would say the A2000 picture is just a hair software (maybe due to the DRC revision?)

    2) The few people who have compared the XBR2’s have seen them next to XBR1 sets, and besides the brightness difference were very hard pressed to even tell a difference between the sets.

Given that, if you don’t have professional A/V measuring equipment and just watch TV like everybody else, I sincerely doubt you would be able to see a different besides the brightness (assuming of course you planned on running the TV extremely bright, otherwise even those two things are going to look very similar).

So no, so far a few folks on the owners threads are starting to say “What gives, where are all the WOW and AMAZING comments from the owners?”, and so far there really hasn’t been any.
