Engadget reports that HTC has let slip that they will be producing 2-3 Android-based phones (Originally rumored as the gPhone platform) next year.
For the folks out there familiar with HTC’s work, they do a lot (all?) of the T-Mobile branded smart phones, their existing TouchFLO interface and GPS integration all suggest that these Android-based phones won’t be HTC’s first dabbling in the smart phone market, they have quite a few favorites under their belt. This makes me happy because it means these first runs of Android-based phones are likely to kick some ass and be pretty compelling devices.
For some more insight into HTCs existing lineup and what they have done in the past, their Touch Cruise is a sweet-ass phone including 3G, Wifi, GPS and touch navigation, but all running on Windows Mobile 6:
Either way, it’s safe to say these guys know what they are doing and I can’t wait to see what they kick out for the cell providers.
