Ok, we caved. We decided to go the easy route and get the Onkyo HT-S990THX. The reason for this is that a friend sent me a link to the 790 series (last year’s model?) that had rave reviews from a lot of the sites I looked at as far as HTIB goes. I figured if you take an award winning HTIB series, refine it, throw THX certification on it, boost the power and give it a decent receiver, you are bound to get atleast 100x better than the TV speakers. Also he linked me a CircuitCity coupon for 10% off that expires tommorow, so I bit.

Shoot me an email when you have this all hooked up - I am in the market too, and this is about what I’m looking for.

Too bad…for a TV like that, can I even call it a TV? You should have gotten something that won’t make your audiophile friends snicker. You got a Rolls Royce and are running on Goodyear Wranglers so to speak.
Well to each his own.
IMO You should have a good setup however. I’ve listened to that Oink and it is pretty good. The receiver is lacking pre-outs, hdmi etc etc.
Score on the TV!

I tell you, if I had my druthers, I would have gotten the Denon 3806 and then a nice set of speakers to go with it… but that’s OK, this is great for now.
