It's very popular. I'll just say that the vast majority of people that play Halo don't care about the single player. It's boring, tedious, repetitive, and we usually just play through it once to get it out of the way. The reason why Halo is so immensely popular is because of the multiplayer. Being able to play with up to 15 other players is fun. I don't understand why it is not mentioned in either the H3 or H2 review. The multiplayer is the real reason why Halo is so popular. Give it a try. Oh and good graphics don't make a game great. Gears of War has awesome graphics but the multiplayer is broken as hell. I play Halo. It’s very popular. The same story, same setting, same theme, a few new weapons, but with better lighting, textures, and such. Hell yah! I actually enjoyed Halo 3 for about 5 hours until I realized.... hey wait, this is just halo 2. Then I never wanted to touch it again.
