Guardian Unlimited reports that Guillermo Del Toro (Glade 2, Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth) will take charge and direct the next two The Hobbit movies (in place of Peter Jackson) while Jackson is executive producer on the projects.
While I thought Pan’s Labyrinth was an curious and dark movie, I wasn’t trying to dry-hump it like everyone else was. I loved the design of the fantasy portions of it, and the characters were certainly dark along with the setting… but it still felt flat to me… whatever that means.
The one thing I will look forward to for Del Toro taking the reigns on The Hobbit, will be a more adult approach to the lore… maybe some more fatal violence to sell the direness of the conflict instead of the more child-friendly approach where you know one is really going to die, and everyone is safe.
