Loading ...As you know there are going to be 7 or 8 versions of Vista available. It’s hard to figure out which one is right for you. The versions are presented in sort of a smallest-to-greatest fashion, but when you actually look at the feature breakdown, that’s not the case at all. For example, the ones off the top of my head that get the most attention are as follows:
- Home Basic
- Home Premium
- Business
- Enterprise
- Ultimate
And the prices increase to match them. So most hardcore gamers out there might thing “Oh, Ultimate baby!”, but is that necessary? Paul does an excellent job breaking these all down for us.
As it turns out, the Home Premium is going to have 98% of what all the gamers, tweakers and media folks out there want while the Business and Enterprise versions are actually missing most of these features and instead have business-specific features. So the old idea that bigger-is-better and you should just get the most expensive you can afford actually doesn’t work here.
Ultimate is going to have everything that Home Premium and Enterprise offers… it is massively overkill in my opinion for any normal home, gamer, media users.
I hope that helps clear some things up as you might be ordering PC’s soon with a version of Vista on it.
