Laurence Hartje sent in the heads up that it looks like Google has launched Gmail Labs, an effort to soft-launch experimental (beta) features for Gmail in a sort of sandbox that you can quickly enable or disable depending on if you want that feature or not.

The Gmail Labs work represents what I feel are long-requested features that Google doesn’t just want to roll into the project, but instead has given us a great middle-ground to start playing with them a head of time. One of the new Labs features I saw that I personally wanted forever was the ability to change where Signatures go (above the quote WITH my reply). I don’t see a way to assign Signatures to specific accounts though which makes it sort of limited for folks that manage a lot of different individual accounts all from Gmail.

You can access the Labs experimental features under the Settings menu, and then under the Labs tab on the far right. You can read more about them using the links at the top of your Gmail account (you will need to log out then back in) or click the little green beaker to see more information about the ones you are currently using:

Some other fun additions related to quick-links to popular functions, like seeing a list of all unread emails in Gmail.

Below is a complete list of all the features currently available in Gmail Labs:
