We covered Ghostbusters before with a brief segment showing what the gameplay with the proton pack looks like, but IGN AU has coughed up a great preview of the game along with lots of snazzy screenshots.
Word on the street is that the tech lead on Ghostbusters is really toughing just how much time they are putting behind the engine, and promise it will run at a full 1080p resolution, anti-aliased, on both the PS3 and XBox 360… nice!
IGN AU’s description of the scenes they got to experienced sounded just like what I wanted… their description of catching Slimer and the destructible environments getting blown apart by the proton pack makes me remember the movie, and how badly I wanted a proton pack and a fancy hotel to blow apart:
My first blast didn’t exactly hit home, instead sending the chandelier crashing to the floor. Still, it got his attention. Another blast scored a nasty black burn mark across the wall, sending him diving for cover beneath one of the tables. The Proton Pack made short work of it, shattering the table and sending the chairs spinning away. We chased him around the room, beams bucking, sparking and whorling, much of the furniture quickly reduced to rubble.
From the first bit of news that Aykroyd and Ramis were scripting the game with full intentions of getting games into their suits with packs on their backs my brain started to vibrate… how good is this game going to be? Is it really going to let me live out my ghost-destroying fantasies? We’ll have to wait and see… my prediction is that it won’t… but that’s only because it’s a first-time shot at something that millions of nerds have different fantastical versions of in their heads… sort of like seeing the movie-version of your favorite book… you can pick out, in about 10 secs, 10 things you don’t like that they “changed” from the book.
But I wish them all the luck, and if I’m wrong, you’ll certainly hear about it in a long review ![]()
