The “Break it Down” Blog

If you are familiar with the drama that unfolded around GameSpot 6 months or so ago, then you know that there was a mass-exodus of their senior talent that all left in response.

Since then the site has been scrambling to keep operations going, reviews churning, etc. For the most part I’ve always liked watching the personalities behind GameSpot, mostly their On the Spot show, but the trend towards mediocrity started with Rich Gallup leaving (IMO, I thought he had charisma falling out his ass) and then the exodus of 3 more of their most senior guys (or 4, I forget).

Anyway, I have been on the fence about getting Condemned 2 and decided to check out some of the video reviews to get a better feel for it. As usual GameTrailer’s review was excellent and I decided to compare those notes with the GameSpot video review:

What a fucking waste of my time.

It wasn’t the Saw-tie-in that bothered me, it was the fact that there was no video review to speak of… it was just 3 mins of Jason in a pig mask not telling me about the game.

I’m not sure when GameSpot will stop hemorrhaging talent and get back on track with the reviews, but let’s hope it’s sooner than later… in the mean time I’d recommend the GameTrailer’s video reviews, usually spot on and very detailed.
