Fix Windows “Unrecognized Device” on USB

Well I just learned an interesting lesson today. Plugging some devices directly into the computer’s USB ports can lead to Windows (XP Pro 32-bit, SP2 in this case) reporting “Unknown Device”. In this case it was a new Palm TX.

After digging online expecting to run through tutorial after tutorial of removing device drivers, I ran across one post that simply said “Try connecting it to a powered USB adapter if you have one”… well I do happen to have one sitting right here connected to the computer.

I unplugged the Palm TX from the old direct USB connection and plugging it directly into the hub and viola, Windows immediately recognizes the device and I’m hot-syncing like a bandit.
