A lot of articles going around these last 2 weeks about Firefox being bloated. For the folks in the know, we’ve seen Firefox (from 1.1 and on) get increasingly memory hungry; taking 400mb of ram and more with only 2 tabs open and browsing for 10mins.
For those of you that use a lot of plugins, you know this number will get up to 1 GB without thinking. There doesn’t seem to be any solution in sight as Firefox 3.0 has all the Google-requirements forced into it that will allow you to run Google Office from your computer locally while offline. All the sudden we start to see some truer colors to the “do no evil” Google.
Firefox has many more good years left in it. It will become a bloated mess as Google pushes it towards their agenda and makes it an integrated application platform that they can deliver all their services with to your desktop and then at some point, many years from now, someone will go “Hey… let’s branch Firefox and call it Litefox!”, and then all the Mozilla developers will groan, throw up, and join the project’s mailing list.
