Life & World

I’m not actually clear on the percentage, but Ars Technica got on their soap box and decided to take a look at what is going on with the rise from 350 complaints in 2000 to 240,000 complaints in 2003. No you didn’t read that wrong… and yes, that was in 2003 not in 2007. What happened between 2000 and 2003? Oh wait… that’s right… Bush Administration, Republicans in power.

99.8% of all the complaints filed to the FCC are done by the Parents Television Council (PTC), a politically-aligned activist group that claims they have no political affiliation or motivation… and are non-profit… my giant asshole they are.

One of the biggest targets of the complaints filed by the PTC are against the Fox Network, which may not make a lot of sense given the political-affiliation of Fox. Then you take a look at where the fined monies are going from Fox, and it’s a little more clear:

I know, it’s a cartoon so it seems silly to use it, but it’s certainly an easy medium to get a message across with. So from this angel the PTC was created to file complaints to the FCC who can then levy fines against networks, mostly Fox, who can than indirectly “donate” money to the Republican Party without raising any eyebrows… they just look like they have really bad producers working there that can’t seem to pick decent shows.

It’s not that I’m anti-Republican, anti-Bush, anti-whatever… but in this day and age when an administration can be so publically corrupted by money and greed, with absolutely no reprocussions for any of it’s actions… how could the PTC be anything else than a money-funneling mechanism? It just can’t, the group is too big, with too much political power for it to be anything else. The timing when the PTC came into power, who benefits from the fines levied and the affiliations of the PTC are too inline with the Bush Administration to think they aren’t related.

Jaded? Yes… very.

And the really disturbing thing about it is that it doesn’t matter which party is in power, this sort of thing will continue to happen. It’s not even being jaded anymore to recognize the corruption; it’s just being aware of the way things unfortunately are.

    Daniel,
I agree… it’s that whole “If it wasn’t group A, it would just be group B”… but in this day and age the corruption is right out in the open and nothing can be done about it, it seems (because the people sitting on the top of the hill with the real power, are all getting too many benefits out of the corruption to truely stop it).

No idea where this is heading in 50 years or what the world will look like, but it’s depressing =/
