TechCrunch reports that the lack of an Android Facebook app in the Android Market Place is not a mistake and you probably don’t want to hold your breath waiting.
Apparently the bad blood between Google and Facebook started when Facebook chose Microsoft as it’s advertising partner; in and of itself, not that bad of a move. What turned the relationship rancid was when Google launched it’s Friend Connect open social networking platform. Papa-Facebook wasn’t too happy about that.
Now it seems that Facebook has no intention of putting out an Android application themselves (like they did with the iPhone) and no intention of lending developers to Google to help develop one (like they did with RIM).
Michael’s internal discussions with folks from Facebook have so far garnered comments along the lines of “vaporware” and “Android sucks, it doesn’t matter.”
Given how corporate cultures work, these aren’t sentiments created solely among the development team because of a poor API or slow Git access to the Android repositories; this is a mindset and preference coming down from the top of Facebook; the managing body of the group, pissed off at Google, venting around the office and spreading the “Android sucks” vibe.
So which indie developer wants to come through on this one for us? I’m busy this weekend… so someone else has to do it

Have you tried using the Android Marketplace, it just sucks. You cant search for an application, you have to scroll through painfully, and then it links you to a site and there you have to download it. Its a terrible implementation.
No wonder Iphone will continue to have more apps since this is so awful

Srini,
This was not my experience at all with Android Marketplace… of course you can search and installing is as simple as the iPhone apps store by clicking a single button and having it download in the background.

Srini, have you actually used the Android Marketplace, or are you just an iPone fanboy? I’m guessing the latter since your comment is completely off base…
