Well, it’s out. Dead Rising has finally been released to the masses. So far the reviews are on par with what the demo presented: if you like killing zombies you will like this game.
Obviously the game brings to the table the zombie killing aspect of zombie-lover’s-dreams-come-true, but let’s look at some of the other things it brings to the table to make this game appeal to other players:
- Interactive environments
- Many many usable weapons/items/costumes/etc.
- Attractive character design/busty women (don’t act like you don’t like it)
- Good characters, bad characters and useless characters
Unfortunately from the reviews I’ve read the major downside to the game (After seemingly having everything going for it) is that there is 1 save slot in the entire game. While this may not be the worst for those Quick-save fanatics out there, the problem is that it’s possible to save the game in position that makes it impossible for you to win, which requires you to start the entire game all over again.
For example, most missions or milestones in the game are time based. If you save the game with only 2 minutes to go before you are suppose to do something, and that turns out to not be enough time, there is no way to every load from that save point and complete the milestone, which makes you fail the game. Which doesn’t mean stepping back to a previous save point, it means hitting up the main menu and selecting “New Game”.
The only thing Capcom did to make it better for folks was that when they do restart, they keep all their character attributes and levels intacts. So if you levelled up considerably and then crapped out your game, when you restart you’ll still be level 11.
I’m currently on the fence if I should drive down the EBGames down the street and get it or not… part of me wants to wait until I get my HDTV to play it and get sick of it, but the other part of me knows that could still be a long ways off… that’s the zombie-killing part of me… it wants blood.
