For those that don’t know the back-story behind Crysis Warhead, originally Crytek, the creators of Crysis, intended to have a much longer post-game support cycle behind Crysis after it’s launch with a planned expansion pack and the long-hyped “1.3″ update that was going to boost game performance across the board.
NOTE: Even though Crysis is known for being one of the best looking games ever, the engine did have a tendency to bring every computer, big and small, to it’s knees regardless of horse power.
As it turned out what would have been the 1.3 update got rolled into what was going to be an expansion pack and the whole thing got turned into a new ($60) game instead of a free upgrade and a $30 expansion pack, known as Warhead.
As the hype machine starts for Warhead, rumors has it that the game engine performs on average 15% better than the version of the Crytek engine in Crysis but with the same gorgeous graphics.
So if you were a fan of the original Crysis (I wasn’t, it was beautiful but so boring), you have some more Crysis-ing to knash your teeth on:

booo for re-playability…
i can’t believe people just purchase this only to push their pc to the limits. Most can’t even see all the gorgeous graphics they “paid” for because they have to play it in mid or low settings..
for lan parties is worst game as almost no one has the pc to play this, so no multiplayer.
crysis will never become a classic like like half life, quake and UT
i consider it a tech demo :p
heck, i still find the ps2, gamecube and wii to have ok graphics =)

As usual you are spot on Manny.
Crysis is a case of a “game” that had the money of EA behind it when infact it really wasn’t a game as much as a glorified tech demo.
If you’ve ever gotten a chance to play through, it’s got the gameplay elements of shooters from 1999/2000… not trying to be insulting but I’m not kidding, even when Far Cry came out it wasn’t revolutionary gameplay, it just *looked* a lot better than most games and Crysis is identical to Far Cry (single man army, go click this button, blow this radar up, go to this waypoint, etc. etc.)
There are no RPG elements, no real story and man does it get repetitive half way through. I read that in a lot of reviews but still caved and got it and see exactly what the reviewers meant.
Oh well… it is amazingly pretty, I’ll give them that

Manny,
I know what you mean. Back in the day when there was 1 epic RPG a year, I wanted it to be 100+ hours… now that there are atleast 1 great game released every month I want every game to be like 8hrs and that’s it; maybe with some nice co-op.
I got addicted… like crazy-addicted to WoW for about 6 months, if you’ve never played it and tend to get addicted to well-designed games (like the first time you played Counter Strike you couldn’t put it down, etc.) then you will probably love it. There isn’t a ton of story, it’s mostly just grinding but it’s so polished and filled with fun challenges that it really is sort of timeless.
If you need a game with a solid story, I found Mass Effect to be good with a pretty sweet story, but Knights of the Old Republic 1 was *Excellent*. Although the graphics might be a bit dated now.
I’m looking most forward to Diablo III now, but who knows when that will come out.
I pretty much pass on all shooters now unless they are really gory/polished, like Gears of War. Just too much similarity.
And RPGs… I love them, but it’s really hard for me to mentally say “Ok, I’m in this thing for 50+ hrs, let’s do this!”
