I’m sorry, but this isn’t either that surprising or that random to me… let’s look at the facts real quick:

  • Microsoft is having a hard time getting DX 10 adopted by devs
  • Multi-platform devs talk about how DX 10 is largely being ignored because DX 9 is what’s on the XBox 360 and it’s easier for them to just target that.
  • Crysis is announced and becomes the single selling point on the market for DX 10
    • Sub-point: Crysis magically has special features that are only available in DX 10 mode

Microsoft therefore loves Crysis because it’s going to get DX 10 on the map, but here’s the rub:

  • Microsoft also loves Halo 3
  • Crysis demo was originally slated to be released the same day as Halo 3… that would be a marketing no-no for Microsoft’s (likely?) future golden-child
  • Microsoft either pays or promises some huge exclusive to the Crysis team for them to push the demo back a month

And viola! you get the Crysis demo a month later. The one nice bit of info is to placate users, they are including the level builder in the demo when it releases a month from now. That’s pretty slick.
