Condemned 2: Scary Fucking Game

Ok so I got a chance to download and play the Condemned 2 demo from PSN (I never played Condemned 1) and I have to say… that is a scary fucking game.

Remember how Jericho was suppose to be super scary and it ended up just being a mindless shooter that didn’t do any 1 thing particularly well? If they had handed Jericho over to the Condemned 2 team, I think I would be shitting blood.

Not having payed Condemned 1 before, I was amazed as how fluid and how accurately the “First Person Perspective” was done in Condemned 2. The movement (kicking, climbing, punching, swinging, etc.) is simulated so accurately from a first perspective perspective that it hooks your… eyes I guess into thinking you are this person on the screen… it is super subtle, but worked in hooking me more closely with the character I was playing (as opposed to a completely static view point like in any other FPS).

Given that I’m now more engaged in this character, the game surrounds you with this hellish environment… I don’t really know how else to describe it… it’s basically a nightmare, come true… even more so than say the Silent Hill series. Then you have these possesed/fucked-up homeless people attacking you from the shadows and the game is pretty much one giant heart attack waiting to happen.

Also, I thought the graphics looked fantastic… which just makes it that much scarier.

While I was blown away by the quality of this game both in graphic/audio fidelity but also it’s representation of this hellish world, I don’t know if I’ll get it… the entire time I was playing the demo my heart was racing and I felt exhausted by the time I was done.

I *really* am not looking forward to the future of gaming when Condemned 5 comes out on the PS4 and I have a VR headset that allows me to fully interact with that environment… I’ll have a goddamn stroke.

So anyway, bravo to the Condemned 2 team… you guys did an amazing job on this game to freak me out enough to not want to play it (sorta back-fired… but bravo anyway). For the horror fans out there that love a good scare and revel in it, I think this is probably a “must buy” for you.

    Becca,
That is exactly what I was worried about, I think I’ll pass on this game. I would really enjoy *watching* someone play this game cause it would be like a movie, but I think playing it myself, in a dark room, would give me a stroke :(

    scaredshless,
Hah, probably not a smart thing to do… a friend offered to send me the game for free, but I turned it down because honestly I don’t see how/when I would play it and not poop my pants.

Doom 3 was the last game I played that scared the shit out of me… that is when I realized that I don’t like being scared *that* much.

Ok, I just bought the game a few days ago and I have to admit, this is a scary fucking game. I played the first one and to this day I am now terrified of manikins. This game doesn’t help the phobia either. and now I think I fear robotic doll toys -even if they do explode- extremely thin chicks with a saw lollipop and a thirst for blood, tar monsters that grab you from above without a moments notice, possessed bums, and of coarse the random freaky thing that lurks in the shadows and jumps out at you without a moments notice makes me rank this game a 10 out of 10. Riyad, if you are still debating on getting it, I would strongly suggest you do, I mean honestly if it gets to scary, then just turn it of for a moment and grasp reality again, then try to get back into the game. This game is truly remarkable, I must say!

Nathan, I *just* finished Condemned 1 and 2, back-to-back, over the period of like 2 weeks. Really loved the story and agreed, the department store mannequins are rediculously scary. I read one forum where the guy said “after you expect the mannequins to come to life, you walk around hitting ALL of them just to make sure they aren’t real” — and he was absolutely right, I did just that.

Lollipop girl was awesome, loved how messed up that was.

I’m actually jonsing for a new horror game — any suggestions there of ones you’ve loved?
