Comcast to Begin Charging for Tech Visits

Life & World

If you have been a Comcast customer you may have gotten a warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that your $60/mo bill helped pay for the times when you needed a tech to come out and figure out what was going on with your setup.

The Consumerist is reporting that this is all coming to an end from some leaked internal presentation slides from Comcast. These visits, service, rewiring, troubleshooting, etc. will start costing you money going forward.

The part I’m most concerned about is this:

Looks like even if Comcast does do the wiring, they are no longer responsible for it once they leave. So if you have a bad jack, bad hookup, etc. from the job they did, tough luck, you get to pay them again to fix it.

Also they are going to stop telling the customer that service within 30 days is free. Let the customer find out.

Whenever a company starts acting like this it usually means the customer base is large enough now that the company cares about one thing: maximize profits.

They no longer have to compete for customers and are now going to squeeze the ones they have as much as possible. Hopefully with DSL on the rise and Verizon exciting nerds across the US with their FIOS service, Comcast won’t suck for too much longer.
