In an effort to go down in history as the second worst and not the worst president in US history, Bush has signed the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) which would make it illegal for health care companies or employers to discriminate against people based on their generic information (e.g. Bob has a gene that makes him 400% more likely to have cancer… his insurance company cannot drop him, raise his rates or deny the claim).
This is a bold move as the future of DNA is surely to be used to categorize, filter and label people as we learn more and more about it. It will certainly change our lives as citizens and parent’s lives if they are able to find out at Day #1 what a child will have the disposition for… I’m sure entire therapy/service industries will spring up around knowledge exposed from our DNA.

Bush asked Dick Cheney what the bill was for. Cheney replied, “it’s fer’ GINA”
So naturally, Bush signed it right away.

Actually, because Bush *did* sign it, my assumption is that there is some hidden clause in there pertaining to extreme funding of military sources, illegal wiretapping clauses or torture… why would this be any different than his entire time in office?
